He had gone into hiding further than he had before, squatting now in some abandoned ranch house in nowhereville, Texas. These were the times he was grateful for the satellite internet card that he had on his computer that was linked to his cell phone account. At least he had the internet to amuse him while he was alone.

There was also a small lake out behind the house, and after checking the water for possible contaminates, he took to doing a bit of skinny dipping and caught his first bath in days. Which of course made it so that he couldn't hear his phone ring, and came back to seeing that he had a voicemail.

He hesitated, then went to listen to it. If it was Dean or Bobby, he needed to know. But it wasn't either of them. It was Faith, and from the sound of it, she was running scared.

His thumb hesitated over the calling back button. He knew he wasn't going to be of any help to her. She was strong and able to take care of herself, right? Hell, she all but boasted about it to the world.

But why was she calling him for help then?

Tossing the towel onto the back of a chair, he finished getting dressed, then went and picked up the phone. If anything, he could give her some over the phone advice.

"Not ok. She's dead. One of mine, one of the ones I trained. She came looking to help and they killed her."

She let some of the anger and frustration coming from her hostess to lace through the words. Anger was a natural response with human grief, silly creatures.

"The council, fucking bastards." And while her tone conveyed grief and worry, she studied her nails and noted the fact that she would need a manicure soon.

"For now, I think. Motel in Arkansas."

"I was in Kansas, I should be good." A little vulnerability went a long way and it was amazing how much you could pack into simple words. Like bluffing during a card game.

"I just... I don't know. I don't even know why I called you. Couldn't really talk to anyone else that'd understand it, ya know?"

If it had been that easy then he wouldn't have been worthy to host Lucifer himself, so she continued the game.

"I'm not even sure what to say... I'm angry. She was so young, Sam. She shouldn't have died. I feel like it's my damn fault."

"I just keep seein' her face, Sam. The nightmares... "

"Slayer metabolism, they kind of roll right off." She sighed into the phone. "Haven't gotten a decent night's sleep in a month."

"Kind of sad when three hours in a row is considered decent."

"You're doin' it. Thanks."

Pushing him would only drive him further away. While not completely out of character for the Slayer, it wouldn't do her any good right now.

"Alright. Hopefully one of us can get some sleep. Take care of yourself."

Baby steps. Patience. All things she'd learned over time.

Naamah hung up the phone and lay back against the bed in her suite. She'd find Sam eventually and hand deliver him to Lucifer. It was only a matter of time.
