After the fight with Nellie and then Dean, Sam had hit his limit. Why the hell had they come to Tijuana in the first place.

Oh yeah, that's right, to relax for the holidays.

Fine. Dean wanted some time away. Wanted Sam to relax. Then Sam would relax and get the hell away from his brother.

He packed his bags and checked out of the hotel, telling the manager that he didn't care about the early cancellation fee. Then he tossed the bag over his shoulder and started down the beach.

Sam just wanted some peace. A hammock on the beach to read like he had planned on spending the month doing. Away from spoiled rich women who believed that they were above treating potential friends with common respect.

And he had actually felt sorry for her.

Thing was, he still did. Maybe more so, because it was her emotional distance from life that made her the way she was. Probably stemmed all the way back to her mother's death. And while Dean and Sam had gone into a world of credit scam and deprived childhoods, Nellie was spoiled beyond belief.

Maybe there was a jealous part. A part where she still had a father and he gave her everything her heart desired. The part of him that missed John SO MUCH that he couldn't admit it aloud, and would do anything to have his father back. To know his mother.

But he knew the price for getting either of them back, and it was one that Dean and Sam really should never try to take again. Because it worked out so well the first few times.

It was when he was halfway down the beach that Sam realized he had no idea where he was going. So he just tossed his bag down and sat in the sand, resting his head in his hands.

Merry Fucken Christmas, Sam Winchester. Another one to add to the reasons why he hated this time of year.

She looked up at him with an eye roll, pushing off the doorway instinctively and moving her way into the room a bit. She didn't look at Sam directly, just looked around as though she was getting the feel for the place. Just like she had done the first time she'd shown up in the coma girl suit she was wearing.

"You're easier to hide."

"From demons. I still kinda stick out in a room though."

"You're telling me that demons aren't the only things you have to worry about hiding from?" Ruby frowned. "Cuz I was pretty sure that's been your biggest problem lately."

"I'm not good with making friends lately." He flopped back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Was that... a mirror?

Ruby watched the look on his face, before following his eyes up, laughing slightly when she saw what he was looking at. "This wouldn't surprise you all that much if you knew her."

"I would think Lust Demon summed it up pretty much, actually." A smile was working it's way onto his face.

"Yeah, but usually she isn't all that -- cliche?" Ruby replied, relaxing as she saw Sam smile a little more.

"It's refreshing. Almost like all the crappy motels I grew up in."

She laughed. "You guys must have seen 'em all back in those days."

"Sometimes Dean and I try to get back in the same hotels we had last time we were in the town. Just to see if things have changed. but it's rare that we're ever in the same towns since we tend to take turns driving to not have to stop between jobs."

Ruby nodded slowly. "Sounds like a good way to spend the time."

Sam was quiet for a bit, staring as his reflection.

"Do I make you feel like I just use you?" he asked softly.

"Of course not." The response was automatic, but it was genuine. "I've been around for a long time, Sam. I know what being used feels like. If I felt like that, I wouldn't be here."

Spells by superior demons pending.

"Good. Because it doesn't feel good to be used."

"No it doesn't," she replied softly. She took another step towards him watching him carefully.

"Are you okay, Sam?"

"No. But I'll be ok. I'm just angry and frustrated right now."

Ruby nodded slowly. "I should probably leave you alone then."

Which was what he had been asking of everyone today, and Ruby was the only one who didn't need to be told. That had to mean something too.

"Is there a mini bar in this place?"

"There is, but I wouldn't call it mini," she said with a smirk, before nodding back towards the living room. "C'mon."

"What, no lectures?" He got up to follow her, but he was teasing her just a bit.

She rolled her eyes. "You're on vacation." she paused before slipping behind what was more of a medium to large bar and starting to go through the booze. "Besides -- you're not the only one who could use a drink."

Sam pulled himself up on a barstool and watched. "So what's your excuse?"

"Amy found out about the whole -- incident -- with Alastair," she said with a nod, before placing two glasses on the bar and reaching for one of the bottles that she knew Sam drank. "She grounded me."

"Wait... you got grounded?" Sam chuckled a bit, taking the bottle and pouring her a drink before making one for himself. "How the hell can she ground you?"

"By using her own magic to bind me to the same ten mile radius of the hex bag I dropped in your car?" she said with a sigh. "Amy knows her shit. The demon your brother axed who taught me pretty much everything I know? She worked for her."
