Sam slipped on his sandals and left his room, pulling out his cell phone. He dialed Anna's number, hoping that she wasn't busy.

"Hey Anna, it's Sam. Join me for a few beers?"

This caught her off-guard. "We were? I- I don't remember you saying that earlier..."

"Well, we said we would eventually get a beer and talk." His hands were in his pockets now. "You have a beer."

"I- I didn't think we'd talk about... about that." Now, she was getting flustered. Partially because these wounds were still tender, but also because she hadn't touched that topic with a ten-foot pole since it was over.

"We don't have to. I just thought..." he sighed. "Nevermind..."

"I- I just don't- I haven't talked about it since--" She shook her head, hands beginning to shake slightly as she felt the flashbacks clawing their way to the front of her mind.

"I know. Forget it. I just... yeah, I'm batting a thousand today." He sat down in the sand, lacing his hands over his head.
