The story of Johnny and June is simple: Johnny was a drug addict and loved June, and she was there by his side during his highs and lows as a friend, and then a lover, and it was her love that helped him get clean finally. Sam and Jo represent a modern day Johnny and June love story to me, hence why it's lyrics are the theme of the mix.

After Jo's father was killed on a job with Sam's dad, Ellen forbid Jo from talking to the Winchester boy. But Jo and Sam were attracted to each other and hid their little high school romance until senior year. This sounds like something Jo would have been thinking when Ellen gave the final ultimatum that split the couple up until they met again.

This is a playful song that can be either of them. It's often that Sam tried to convince Jo to "call out sick" and sleep in with him in bed, just being playful and happy. They are completely adorable when they are in these happy moments, and this song fits it perfectly.

This is a Jo song. For some reason, she apparently feels better just seeing the small smiles that Sam sends in her direction. Some of them are only for her, and if he's not smiling, she knows something's wrong and won't stop trying to help him until she gets to see his smile again.

I see this as a scene. Sam's starting to fall to his addictions again and Jo is trying to fight him to keep him from using again. It's a bad day for them both and she's trying to tell Sam to hold on and keep from succumbing, but she is also trying to keep herself from breaking down because if she does, she knows he will be lost.

I don't see Jo handling it well when Sam disappears after he succumbs to his addiction again, and this song makes me think of her trying to keep her heart from breaking the longer he's gone, but she can't help it as she worries that he won't come back the same...

This is Sam deep in his addiction. He turns to drugs to escape from the pain in his life, and when he's high he loses all perspective of the people who do care for him, and is just waiting for them to give up and leave him to his death.

I can see this song being one that Sam would feel towards Jo after he comes back from getting caught up in his addictions again. He's afraid she won't take him back, but while he was in rehab he realizes that it's her love that he wants back more than anything, and needs her to know that.

Jo knows there it a lot more to Sam that he hides away when he's feeling bad about himself, and she often has to remind him on the bad days that he has a beautiful soul under all those scars.

This is Sam's side of the great battle of getting Ellen to accept the love he and Jo share, only this is as an adult and fighting to overcome those fears he still has because Ellen can be a very scary woman. And after all the battles he has fought and lost, as he's cleaning himself up again, this is the one he plans on winning.
