It was a simple ceremony on Angeline's property. The winds from the bayou were light as the sun was starting to set. There was a small archway that had been put just past the gardens, and two men stood there. One man was dressed in black - not a priest but a friend of the mother's who was able to perform civil ceremonies.
The other man was Sam Winchester. He was thirty two, and as he stood in his bare feet, he looked to finally be at peace with his life. The white peasant shirt blew in the breeze, and his khaki pants went down just to his ankles. He was happy and nervous, a ball of energy that was barely able to contain himself while he tried not to bounce on the balls of his feet.
There were a few blankets set up with people sitting in groups. Friends that Sam had made over the last few years. Friends of Desiree that had little drums and flutes on their blankets and they all started to play as the doors of the plantation house opened. Angeline and Desiree's mother, Paulina, walked arm in arm towards Sam. They stopped and Angeline ran a hand along Sam's face, smiling.
"The life of my daughter has brought me many things, and in her death she gave me not only a grandson, but you. You were a broken child when I found you, Samuel, and now you are a strong man. You have become a son to me, and I am overjoyed that I get to be the one to share this moment with you and bless you into the next part of your life."
Sam took her hand, smiling softly and kissed her knuckles. "Thank you," he said softly. Angeline smiled, then went over to a pile of pillows off to the side. He then turned to Paulina, who said nothing but placed a hand on either side of his face and smiled at him. Obediently, Sam bowed his head and she placed a kiss on his forehead. As he stood back up, he looked back at the plantation house while Paulina joined Angeline on the cushions.
The door opened and Johnny walked out. He was dressed identical to Sam right down to the bare feet. He started to walk like he had been shown to do with such a serious face, but then he took off running right for his uncle. Sam laughed and squatted down, capturing the 6 year old in his arms and hugging him tightly.
"Desiree looks really pretty!"
A few people laughed at the little boy's words, and Sam ruffled his hair. "Thanks for the information. Go sit with grandma now."
"Ok!" Johnny let go of Sam and ran to Angeline, curling up in her lap. There was a box in his hands and Angeline quickly opened it to make sure it still had something inside, then kissed his cheek.
The drumming stopped, and everyone looked back at the plantation. Sam help his breath, then watched as the doors opened a final time. Her father, Jules, walked out first, his suit trimmed with his voodoo priest decorations. He nodded at Sam, then held his hand into the door. Out walked Desiree in her wedding dress, and Sam felt his heart soar. He couldn't take her eyes off her as she walked down the garden path to him, and felt her hands slide into him.
Her eyes were so full of love, and Sam was still kicking himself for taking so long to realize it. But now she stood there in front of him and she was so beautiful that he barely paid attention to the ceremony.
"Samuel, you take this woman to be your wife?" The man in black asked. Sam licked his lips, then nodded. "Yes, I do."
"And Desiree, you take this man to be your husband?"
"Yea, I do."
"The rings?"
Sam turned to look at Johnny, and he ran over and held up the box. Sam reached in, pulling out the two gold rings and handed her one, then took her hand and slid the other onto her finger. "With this ring, I promise you my heart, my love, and my soul. From now until it beats no more."
Desiree smiled, then slid the ring onto his finger. "All dat I 'ave ta give, I give ta you. From now unt'l da day I die."
The man nodded, and Jules stood next to them again. He reached down for a basket that had been by the arch, and opened the cover. Out slid a boa, which Jules held over their clasped hands. The snake looked at them, and then curled around their hands, binding them together. Sam fought the urge to gasp, and felt Desiree squeeze his hand as she smiled at him.
The moment passed, and the snake released them. As Jules put it away, Angeline stood up and walked over with a handmade broom. She placed it on the ground in front of the couple, and smiled. "I made it for Tina. I now give it to you as a blessing to your union."
Sam and Desiree smiled, then held hands as they jumped over it.

The dances were done, the cake was cut, and Desiree was now sitting on Sam's lap as they watched their friends enjoy themselves. She rested her head on his shoulder, fingers intertwined as she looked at their rings.
"We're gonna 'ave a good life ta'gether, Sammy boy. I promise ta make ya happy."
Sam turned to look at her, pushing a lock of hair from her face. "You already make me happy. Just keep doing what you're doing."
The moment was interrupted as Johnny ran over, crawling into their laps. "Grandma says that it's time to go," he announced.
"Is it already?" Sam looked at his watch that he had stuck in his pocket. "Wow, it is getting late."
"When you come back, Desiree is going to move in with us forever, right?"
"'course I am, baby." She leaned down to kiss his cheek. "I'm yer auntie now."
Johnny looked at them, then gave his serious look to Sam. "I know that you aren't my daddy and mommy... but I want you to be. Daddies and Mommies take care of their kids, and I'm your kid."
Desiree rubbed the back of Sam's neck, feeling him stiffen a bit. He looked off in the distance a moment, and she knew he was worried about upsetting the ghosts of his brother and Tina. She leaned into his ear and kissed it gently. "Yer not takin' dat away from yer bra'ther, my love. Johnny always be rememberin' him. But you really are his daddy now. No harm in 'im callin' you dat."
Sam turned to look at her, then nodded and looked at Johnny. "If you really want to."
Johnny smiled and wrapped his arms around Sam's neck. "I love you, daddy," he said, bringing a tear to Sam's eye as he then hugged Desiree and whispered into her ear. Then the boy was gone and Desiree looked into Sam's eyes.
"Come on, Sammy boy. There be a boat waitin' on us. Don't know 'bout you, but I'm kinda ready fer ya ta be takin' dis dress offa me."
Sam laughed at that, helping her to her feet. "Well, how can I deny a request like that?" He stood up, then leaned his head down to kiss her as his thumb ran along her cheek as the gold band reflected the light from the torches around them.
